Academic Description:
A partner to Approaches to Research in Divinity and Religious Studies, the 10-credit S1 course on research skills for all PG students in the School of Divinity. This 10-credit S2 course is the devolved component for Biblical Studies students, in particular. It covers key critical issues in Hebrew Bible and New Testament, research tools and methods in Biblical Studies, and research proposal workshops for enrolled students.
Syllabus/Outline Content:
Week 1: Taxonomy of methods, writing and presenting a proposal
Week 2: Print and electronic research tools
Week 3: Current issues in biblical studies 1
Week 4: Current issues in biblical studies 2
Weeks 5-8: Individual meetings with dissertation supervisors
Week 9: Dissertation proposal presentations
Week 10: Dissertation proposal presentations
Student Learning Experience Information:
Course contact hours comprise a series of disciplinary skils seminars with Biblical Studies staff in the first five weeks of semester, followed by one session for oral presentation of dissertation research proposals in the second half of semester.
