Course description Academic Description:
This is a second-level course, building on the introduction to New Testament Greek offered by BIST08014. Students will consolidate their grasp of both the grammar and vocabulary of the Greek New Testament through close reading of biblical passages.

Syllabus/Outline Content:
The course is structured around a number of New Testament texts. These vary each year, but a possible curriculum might be the following: John 1-3, Mark 14-16, Matthew 1-2, Philippians.

Student Learning Experience Information:
The course meets once a week over the whole academic year. We shall work through the set passage, verse by verse, paying attention to vocabulary, grammar and exegetical matters. Students are encouraged to ask questions and to share what they have read in commentaries with the rest of the class. Participants will demonstrate their achievement of the intended learning outcomes through the class test (at the end of the first semester) and the final exam.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Introducing New Testament Greek (BIST08014) OR Introducing New Testament Greek (DIVI08006)
Co-requisites
Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking Intermediate New Testament Greek (BIST08018)
Students MUST NOT also be taking Greek 1B (GREE08004)
Other requirements Students who have previously taken the following course MUST NOT enroll: Intermediate New Testament Greek (BIST08018)

Pre-requisitesVisiting students should usually have at least 1 introductory level Divinity/Religious Studies course at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this) for entry to this course. We will only consider University/College level courses.

  4. Show an ability to navigate the textual apparatus of modern Greek New Testament editions.
