Summary | The aim of this course is to develop participants from a novice to a competent/proficient facilitator in utilising clinical simulation as a learning tool. |
Course description |
This course will be comprised of ten (10) online 1 hour tutorial sessions.
Participants will apply relevant learning theory and a range of simulation based learning modalities to create simulation based scenarios/programmes that engage learners, influence practice, and ultimately improve patient safety and quality of care.
Teaching resources, relevant literature and articles will be posted on Learn and participants will be expected to engage with these prior to tutorials.
Tutorials will be interactive and consist of a mix of lecture, small group work, debates, and group discussions.

One x 3000 word paper outlining a theoretically informed, constructively aligned clinical simulation programme with considerations how outcomes will be measured.
One x 1000 word reflective piece based on a completed Objective Structured Observation of a Debrief from a simulation scenario debrief.

Feedback |
Formative feedback will be provided on a draft that will be submitted for the proposed programme development.
Summative feedback will be given in the form of grading and in-text commentary on the two components of the assessment. |

Participants can expect to develop an increased appreciation of lifelong learning and enquiry over the unit. Additionally, by focusing on reflection and debriefing method, participants will be able to utilise the same skills in every part of their professional and personal lives.
The unit will enhance the participants' communication skills as debriefers and educators and influence their personal effectiveness and confidence in being able to apply the skills and knowledge from this unit into creating educational solutions in their workplace. |
