The aim is to learn new things to get a broad education in the area as a basis for a wide range of PhD projects and for post-PhD employment. Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Thoroughly understand the main properties of Banach and Hilbert spaces and linear operators acting on them.
- Thoroughly understand the Hahn-Banach theorem, Baire's theorem and its consequences.
- Demonstrate familiarity with weak topologies, Krein-Milman theorem.
- Thoroughly understand the concepts and tools developed in the spectral theory of compact operators and C* algebras.
