| Summary | This course, suitable for students with some weaving experience, starts with the basic assumption that tapestry can be used as a visually rich and dynamic medium as contemporary art practice in the 21st Century. The course begins with a series of experiments using basic mark-making techniques and textural surface studies using a variety of weaving techniques and materials. Student will develop their own visual information from the mark-making and texture studies and incorporate these in tapestry samplers and woven studies. This cross-fertilisation of ideas is intended to challenge preconceived notions of what tapestry is and produce valid, contemporary tapestry solutions. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- On completion of this course through class hours, directed and independent study, students will be able to;
RESEARCH
explore the fundamentals of mark-making and surface studies to inform a new way of looking at tapestry
- PRACTICE
experiment and combine strands of mark-making, surface texture and tapestry weaving, to cross-inform and invigorate practice
- PRESENT
develop initial drawings, sketches and research into a range of samples and a resolved tapestry piece which consider contemporary art practices.
