Summary | The course introduces the basic structures of Arabic grammar and is designed to teach students to understand, speak and write modern standard Arabic to an advanced elementary / low intermediate level. This course is only available to students on the MSc in Late Antique, Islamic and Byzantine Studies degree programme. |

Other requirements | All students attend five Arabic classes per week. On Mondays the cohort is split into two, with each group attending a lecture at either 9.00 am or 2.00 pm. Students will be allocated to a lecture group and they should attend each week at the allocated time.
On Tuesdays to Fridays students attend language classes which will be scheduled each day at 9.00 am, 10.00 am, 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm. Students will be allocated to a group of approx 20 - 25 students, and they should attend the same group each day at the allocated time.
Students attending language classes at 9.00 am and 10.00 am will attend the 9.00 am lecture on Mondays, and students allocated to the 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm language classes will attend the 2.00 pm lecture. Students will be allocated to groups according to their availability.

Learning Outcomes
Students learn to read and write the Arabic script.
