Summary | The Final Project (Advanced Arabic) will involve
one of the following forms:
a) A single authored dissertation of 15,000 words on a topic related to the Arabic-speaking world, and drawing on some Arabic sources, to be submitted by a date specified in the University Regulations.
b) A media portfolio on an agreed theme that will include:
-A series of 2-3 discussion interviews in Arabic (including an introduction before the interviews and a short summary afterwards by the student in Arabic) recorded as podcasts or a formal filmed series of video interviews, and comprising approximately 30 minutes in length (20%)
-A 4000 word magazine-style editorial report written in informative, journalistic Arabic (40%)
-A Research Report (c.4500 words excluding bibliography and notes) in English summarising the project and outlining its rationale, with evidence of Arabic sources provided as well as reflective thoughts on interviews once recorded (40%).

Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- Learn to undertake a sustained piece of independent work that displays and extends the research skills, language training and knowledge acquired in the previous coursework;
- Demonstrate ability to design and execute a research project
- Exercise and consolidate their time- and task-management, presentational, and self-motivational skills in the conduct, presentation, and time- and task-planning of their research scheduling
In addition, students undertaking the research dissertation will:
- Demonstrate the ability to locate and utilise Arabic primary and secondary sources.
In addition, students undertaking the Arabic language pedagogy dissertation will also:
- Demonstrate ability to reflect critically on aspects of teaching practice with reference to relevant scholarly literature
