PLEASE NOTE: This course is designed for complete beginners with no previous knowledge of Arabic of any kind, either as a first (native) or second language. Should there be any doubt as to a student¿s proficiency in Arabic, they must inform both their Personal Tutor and the Course Organiser for Introductory Arabic Language, who may advise them to switch to a different course |
Course description |
The course provides an introduction to written and spoken Modern Standard Arabic and is designed for complete beginners. The aim of the course is to equip students with skills to read and write the Arabic script and with a basic grounding in grammar and vocabulary of Modern Standard Arabic.
All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination. Auditing (Class Only) is not allowed.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Be able to read a basic 50-70 word passage in Arabic
- Recognise and use the Arabic alphabet to write grammatically correct sentences
- Demonstrate a knowledge of basic grammatical structures
- Possess basic oral skills and be able to conduct simple conversations on a limited number of topics
