Summary | Velkommen til Danish 1! On this 1-year course at Scandinavian Studies you will learn to speak, understand, read and write the Danish language as well as learn the basics of the grammar, pronunciation and a good amount of vocabulary. The course also covers some aspects of Danish culture and civilisation, for example you will be doing a group presentation halfway through the first semester, and you will also get familiar with some Danish children's stories. Along with the assessments, you are required to do a set amount of homework as preparation for each class.
Since few applicants to the university have a pre-qualification in a Scandinavian language, the first-year ab-initio classes are the standard form of entry to the study of a Scandinavian language.

Course description |
Summary of content: mostly language, some literature and civilisation.
Danish 1 is a full-year course taught for four hours a week. The main emphasis of the course is on concentrated learning of spoken and written language. There will also be student project work on aspects of Danish culture, society and history. The literature component of the first-year course is of necessity slim, but a number of short texts are studied in Semester 2.
By the end of the course, the aim is to have reached CEFR level A2, as described in the learning outcomes.
