| Course description |
A compulsory course for all Italian 4 students that bears 10 CREDITS and aims to improve
their written competence in Italian by strengthening fluency, grasp of idioms and
stylistic awareness. The course has one session per week and consists of two elements:
Essay: argumentative and creative writing in Italian.
Prose: translation from English into Italian.
CLASS ACTIVITIES include structure and vocabulary-building exercises; textual and stylistic analysis of passages in Italian. HOME ASSIGNMENTS include writing or translating e-mails, dialogues, compositions /fiction, summaries or report of articles, reviews and commentaries.
(Note Course weighting changed to 50% Coursework/ 50% Final Exam from Session 2018-19 onwards)

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Engage successfully with complex Italian and English texts, demonstrating an advanced knowledge of languages and cultural references.
- Enhance sensitivity to different varieties of idioms, styles and registers.
- Write fluently and accurately a variety of texts (essay, summary, reviews) in Italian.
- Enhance translation skills (equivalence, adaptation, compensation)
- Develop critical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team
