| Summary | An introduction to the development of Italian literature and culture, from the Middle Age to the XXIst century, focusing on selected seminal works (literary, philosophical and political) in relation to their historical backgrounds. |

Two topics studied each semester.
Two classes a week: Monday and Thursday at 2pm.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a broad understanding and knowledge of the main Italian literary and historical developments from the XIII to the XXI century.
- Deepen the understanding of aesthetic and thematic aspects raised by the texts studied in relation to their cultural and socio-political contexts.
- Develop critical skills and improve command of literary terminology and rhetorical techniques.
- Demonstrate familiarity and engagement with the recommended secondary texts in relation to the texts studied.
- Demonstrate acquisition of certain transferable skills, including the ability to elaborate concepts, to evaluate evidence from different perspectives; to construct coherent and effective arguments.
