SummaryThe course will deepen the students understanding of the worker's educational role and will focus on developing dialogue through structured experiences in the various forms and settings of community education practice.
Course description Participants on this course will consider how groups of learners may be helped to develop their capacity to think and act critically, and to support one another to develop strategies, tactics and practices in relation to desired change. Participants will also be required to develop appropriate teaching and learning techniques designed to foster dialogue.

Pre-requisites It is RECOMMENDED that students have passed Concepts and Controversies in Community Education (EDUA08064) AND An Introduction to Research in Community Settings (EDUA08065) AND Community Education Professional Practice 1 (EDUA08066)

Additional Information (Assessment) A 4,000 word essay on developing an educational intervention with a real or imaginary group. The essay will provide theoretical justification for the curriculum design.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Distinguish between different approaches to informal educational work in the field of Community Education and explain the importance of making implicit purposes explicit in professional contexts.
  2. Demonstrate critical awareness of and skills in structuring educational experiences in community education contexts, using people's experience as part of an educational intervention.
  3. Develop a body of critical knowledge in the field of community education .
  4. Design a structured dialogue.
  5. Articulate the concept of praxis.
