Course description This course develops the dialogue between the theoretical, practice and process perspectives offered by the person-centred approach and psychodynamic traditions in relation to the counselling relationship. Central to the dialogue is the emphasis on the relational dimensions of counselling and how these are conceptualised and expressed in practice. The course introduces core themes for professional and ethical practice.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. conceptualise the counselling relationship and the counselling process in relation to the person-centred approach and psychodynamic traditions
  2. reflect honestly, openly and insightfully on listening practice
  3. integrate theory and research with practice through engagement with relevant literature
  4. demonstrate an awareness of the significance of issues of difference, diversity and power
