| Summary | For the Honours Programme in Modern European Languages and Classics, students are required to attend Classics courses at a University in the appropriate country, which will require approval by the Classics Subject Area. If the student's mode of study-abroad does not automatically offer access to university courses, long essays based on independent study carried out while abroad may substitute for these courses, at the discretion of the Head of the Classics Subject Area. |

| Additional Information (Assessment) |
This course is assessed in one of two ways. It is preferred that students attend Classics courses at their host university, which must be approved in advance by the Classics International Officer. The assessment mode may therefore differ from that indicated above, dependent on the student¿s chosen courses at the host institution. The courses at the host institution must total 20 ECTS (equivalent to 40 SCQF credits).
Where a student does not have access to university courses, and an alternative assessment mode has been formally approved by the Head of Classics, the student will be assessed through coursework, in the form of two essays of ca. 5,000 words each to substitute for the 20 ECTS. Each of the two essays will be worth 50% of the total assessment. The student will agree the topic through the Classics International Officer, who will serve as Course Organiser.
The topic and title of each essay must be approved by the Classics International Officer in consultation with the Head of Classics, who will appoint a supervisor. One essay will be normally be submitted by a set date at the end of January. The second essay will normally be submitted by a set date at the end of July. |
| Feedback |
Students have contact with their essay supervisor whilst abroad by correspondence, telephone, or skype to discuss progress and receive feedback. Students will receive written feedback on their coursework which they can discuss further with their supervisor. |
