The Introduction to History of Landscape Architecture covers the early beginnings; the hydraulic civilizations of Mesopotamia, Persia and Egypt; the classical and the mediaeval gardens in Europe; expressions of the Renaissance and Baroque in garden design; the eighteenth century English Landscape Garden tradition, including the work of Kent, Brown and Repton; the Picturesque; the early parks movement in Britain; Loudon and the Gardenesque; gardens of the Arts and Crafts Movement; and a short overview of contemporary trends in landscape design. It also takes an international perspective to cover key design traditions in one or more of the following: northern India, China, Japan and North America.
