SummaryWhy do issues of crime and justice feature so highly on the political agenda in the UK? This course will consider why law and order is a key political issue, the context in which criminal justice policy is created and the processes and actors involved in designing and implementing policy. The nature of the political debate around crime, and the relevant policy processes, will be illustrated through discussion of ongoing debates within domestic criminal justice policy. For instance, how best to address issues of anti-social behaviour, and the extent to which offenders should be punished with imprisonment.
