Additional Information (Assessment) |
1. Assessment of Placement [50%] to be carried out from Semester 2 Week 7 onwards.
2. Assessment of Group Project [15%] to be carried out by Professional Project Leaders with date to be notified by Course Organiser.
3. One c.5000 word Essay [35%] - Each student will undertake a placement across the social or educational sector between October and March. Students will be required to keep a reflective diary that should include: workshop plans, weekly reporting on progress and issues arising, which will form the basis of their Essay submission. The Essay should evaluate, reflect and analyse the placement with an emphasis on methodological insights. |
Feedback |
Throughout the academic year students will receive oral and formative feedback in 1-2-1 or small group sessions. These will take place before or after the weekly placement. Post-assessment visit the students will receive written feedback on placement feedback sheet. In Semester 1 this will indicate progress and areas for development.
Students will also receive regular advice and feedback by email if they should wish, in respect to their plans for placement sessions.
During practical workshops students will receive formative feedback from the course organiser, visiting specialists and their peers.
They will receive written feedback on the assessed essay including comments on the accompanying feedback sheet.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Students will have gained further experience in using creative and improvisational skills with individuals and groups
- They will have developed leadership qualities within one or more placements, working with professional musicians and with other students in one or more community situations
- They will have analysed and evaluated their own placement work and reflected on its outcomes in a written submission.
- They will have come to an appreciation of the roles and limitations of music in a variety of community and therapeutic situations.
