SummaryThis course first considers the key principles of EU free movement law, focussing on concepts such as discrimination, market access and proportionality. Examples will be drawn from across the different Treaty freedoms in order to understand both commonalities and differences within the EU free movement framework. The course will then focus in more detail on the free movement of persons and EU citizenship law, noting the rapid evolution of this area of law in recent years and the political controversies surrounding these issues at present.
Course description Students will be encouraged to evaluate the fundamental value of free movement and citizenship to the EU overall as well as to reflect on its likely future shape in an increasingly contested Union.
