SummaryThis course is intended to support the development of students' skills in legal research by introducing students to the methodologies and methods which can be used to conduct research in international, European and domestic legal studies, using a variety of different intellectual approaches. It will provide students with a thorough grounding in the nature and practicalities of legal research and writing, including the construction of research proposals, questions and strategies, and will to equip students with the necessary capabilities to conduct independent legal research.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will:
- be familiar with the range of methodologies and methods which can be used to undertake legal research;
- will be capable of constructing a research proposal and designing appropriate strategies to conduct research into their chosen topic;
- will have acquired the skills necessary to use a variety of methods for legal research, and will have developed familiarity with using empirical methods such as surveys, questionnaires and interviews, as well as doctrinal and documentary approaches;
- will be capable of identifying appropriate methodologies and methods to undertake research on their chosen topics.
