SummaryThe generic courses in years two and three of the BEd Primary Programme introduced students to the concept of ?creativity= before developing focus on aesthetic attitudes, values and judgements. This option will further develop students= abilities to identify the possibilities for ?learning in= Art and Design (e.g. visual and tactile learning as well as problem solving) and ?learning through= Art and Design (e.g. Art and the Environment, Art and Language, Art and ICT). The teaching approaches adopted in the option will encourage ?layered learning= (Curriculum for Excellence, 2005). Approaches will comprise lectures, seminars and discursive workshops. In these workshops students will use their developing understanding of theory and pedagogical practices to accommodate new principles and knowledge. Students will be encouraged to draw on the specialist support provided by outside bodies and agencies. Specifically, the Playfair Link Education Facilities at the National Gallery and the Royal Museum of Scotland will be used. No costs to students or the University are anticipated.
