Music and Media
This course has been constructed around a range of key themes based on current and contemporary research. The course is structured to show a learner journey beginning with an introduction to definitions of culture and how music can contribute to the shaping of and reflection of culture and sub-cultures (ethno-musicology). The course progresses through investigation of our use of music in everyday life with some comparative studies with other, non-western, cultures. Making sense of arts and music of other cultures is a critical theme, especially in a society where we now use many components of ¿other¿ musics to shape that known as popular music. Finally, the concept of ¿popular¿ is explored and how our identity is shaped through this ever-changing music in a diverse society
