SummaryThis course will investigate lighting fundamentals for spaces in relation to interior and architectural design contexts. Through a series of case studies and practical lighting workshops, students will explore how lighting affects spaces and learn how to design and specify their own lighting strategies for a design project.
Course description This course involves students attending a series of lectures/seminars and building visits where the fundamentals of lighting design are explained and explored, using relevant case studies from the built environment. Supplementary workshops will engage students in practical lighting studies and demonstration of lighting techniques.

Students will be tasked with applying the skills taught to a series of design problems, looking at existing building scenarios and further application of an aspect of lighting design to a project of their choice. Students will gain first-hand experience of working with different lighting scenarios using both daylight and artificial light through the creation and representation of their own lighting strategies.
