SummaryThis course will provide students with knowledge of physiological and pharmacological mechanisms associated with anaesthesia and analgesia and how common drugs act.
Course description Knowledge and understanding of the relationships between veterinary anaesthesia, analgesia, physiology and pharmacology;
Demonstrate an awareness of the role of anaesthesia and analgesia in animal welfare and management

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. To be able to use appropriate terminology correctly
  2. To be able to describe common mechanisms of drug action and any additional and side effects of common drugs and to be able to discuss interactions of anaesthetic and analgesic drugs
  3. To be able to describe the basic physiology of pain
  4. To develop reasons for drug selection dependent on the clinical situation
  5. To be able to describe how physiological changes related to age and other non-disease related animal differences affect anaesthesia
