Summary | The Dissertation is a major study demanding a high level of application and commitment to research and enquiry. It provides you with the opportunity to identify, reflect on and explore a topic of interest to your own professional and academic development. c
The dissertation normally consists of a professionally relevant research project. This could be carried out in or in relation to the work of an approved organisation or as a more general research study as appropriate. The data gathering stage of the Dissertation may be conducted jointly with up to two other students subject to approval from the Programme Director.
Finally, the project is written up individually under supervision as a 12,000 ¿ 15,000 word dissertation.
The Dissertation provides an opportunity for the development of extended professional action and for critical evaluation on the process, outputs and outcomes of this.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- justify the approaches and techniques used to collect and analyse evidence and identify the implications of these choices for the status of the evidence and the findings based on it
- examine critically the contribution and limitations of the study undertaken regarding theories and issues relevant to the practice and roles of professionals
- demonstrate an ability to identify and critically reflect on the relevant and up-to-date literature, research reports and other scholarly and professional evidence
- show an ability to make explicit theories informing practice and to critically reflect on their coherence; relate theory to practice and, where appropriate, re-evaluate the theory in the light of professional practice
- define and redefine problems and their implications for practice, where appropriate and reflect critically on conventional professional approaches and practices
