SummaryAn introduction to the Latin language for complete beginners and those with limited recent experience of the language. A thorough grounding is provided in the essentials of Latin accidence (nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs) and in the syntax of the simple sentence.
Course description This course aims to teach complete beginners the basics of Latin grammar to enable them to read straightforward Latin by the end of the semester. The course, therefore, moves at a very fast pace. The class meets for 4 hours each week, and in addition there are 6 tutorials during the semester.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Students who complete the course successfully will be able by the end of the course to demonstrate in written examination and course work that they:-
  2. have mastered the accidence of the Latin language
  3. have an understanding of the basics of Latin syntax (simple sentences);
  4. are able to translate straightforward Latin sentences with the help of a dictionary
