| Summary | This course explores the rich diversity of genres and styles that the Jacobean period encompassed. From Shakespeare at the height of his rhetorical complexity, to the plainer and more direct styles of city comedy and Jacobean tragedy, this course will examine the dramatists' anxieties about the court and the government of James I, and about the way their society and culture was rapidly changing.

| Course description |
This course will examine drama written by Jacobean writers such as Shakespeare, Jonson, Middleton and Webster. It will take a close look at how the dramas reflect the rapidly changing culture of this period, the dramatic techniques used by the writers and how these developed between 1603 and 1625.
