Summary | This is a for-credit course offered by the Office of Lifelong Learning (OLL); only students registered with OLL should be enrolled.
We begin with Kate Summerscale¿s exploration of a real murder case in The Suspicions of Mr Whicher. From there we shall investigate Donna Tartt¿s The Secret History before moving to Scandanavia to consider two detectives, Joe Nesbo¿s Harry Hole and Peter Hoeg¿s Miss Smilla. We will end up with another historical murder in Margaret Atwood¿s Alias Grace. Come along and enjoy some searching discussion! |

Learning Outcomes
The students will learn skills of close analysis of text and group discussion as well as how to explore the relationship between detective fiction and modern culture. In addition they will have a clearer idea of the development of the genre from Poe and Doyle to the present day.
