Summary | The course is designed to introduce students to the general principles of insurance law in the UK. This will include an overview of a range of topics which comprise the subject of insurance law, including insurable interest, the law of misrepresentation, breach of warranty, non-disclosure of material facts, the indemnity principle, subrogation, the proximate cause principle and European Insurance Law. Where relevant, the course will distinguish between English law and Scots law. |

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students should have:
(a) a general understanding of the areas of insurance law discussed in the course;
(b) a detailed and specific knowledge of some particular areas of insurance law within this broader framework;
(c) an understanding of major insurance law issues and debates;
(d) developed skills of reading and critical analysis enabling them to evaluate the work of insurance law scholars;
(f) developed written and oral skills, including the clear and succinct expression of ideas; and
(f) a basic grounding in research skills and techniques in insurance law.
