Summary | This course is based primarily on works translated into English. The course will first provide a methodological introduction and a historical introduction to the background and rise of Islam, the life of its Prophet and the early appearance of the main sectarian divisions. It will then concentrate on its two primary sources, the Qur=an and the Hadith. It will cover their nature and history, and will examine particular aspects of Islamic practice and belief through these sources. The main focus is on gaining familiarity with the sources themselves. |
