SummaryThe internship is a work placement, with a final report and a presentation. Each internship lasts for two semesters overall and demands one full day per week from the student.
Course description The internship has three main elements:

1. A plan of work drawn up between the host institution, the student, and the course organiser.

2. The work itself.

3. A final report and poster presentation that are assessed.

The work itself will depend on what can be provided by the host organisation, but will be appropriate and sustaining for a student at this level: archival work, curatorial work, collection research, work in public relations, arts management and art publishing are possible.

Placements are arranged in appropriate organisations (public and commercial galleries, museums, archives, libraries, conservation
trusts, publishers and other cultural organisations) in and near Edinburgh, Stirling and Glasgow.

The internship will enable students to explore a possible future career path, while developing skills and experience and meeting professional practitioners.

Participating organisations are likely to include the National Museums of Scotland, the National Galleries of Scotland, the National Library of Scotland, the Talbot Rice Gallery, the City Art Centre (Edinburgh), and
the special collections of Edinburgh University.

Students will be supported throughout the internship by a series of class meetings.
