Summary | This course is designed to introduce students to the study of Book History from manuscript culture to electronic text. It also serves to introduce students to the range of expertise and resources in the study of Book History at the University of Edinburgh and in the city. It is structured in five sections: materiality, textuality, printing and reading, authorship and intermediality, and remediation. It aims both to ground students in the theoretical and practical understandings they need to begin advanced independent research in Book History, and to introduce them to the leading-edge of debates in the field, at a moment when the media ecology we inhabit is being transformed and the interdisciplinary field of Book History must work hard to catch up. |
