- This is one of the four 'Critical Practice' courses which aim to provide students with a set of practical skills and range of knowledge that will complement and supplement other course work undertaken in the honours years.
- The lectures will add to students' analytical skills by demonstrating the conjunctions of theory and practice in named poems.
- Students taking the course will become familiar with a range of poetic techniques and literary forms as they have evolved and in their historical context where appropriate.
- They will come to recognise different critical approaches to the poetic artefact, and ways of reading informed by gender, by genre, and by the strategies and tactics of English prosody.
