SummaryA study of some of the main figures and plays from twentieth-century Spanish theatre
Course description By focusing on the theoretical and practical aspects of theatre production and staging as well as on theme, historical context and censorship, this option will chart the development of Spanish theatre in the twentieth century. The prescribed texts are a cross-section of plays written pre-Civil War, and the Franco regime. They exemplify tradition as well as innovation and experimentation in Spanish theatre.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand Spanish twentieth-century theatre in the context of European and world theatrical movements
  2. Refelect critically and make judgements in light of evidence and argument
