Summary | This course introduces students to a variety of ways of thinking about the meaning of community education and illuminating their own experience of and/or interest in practice. The contribution of different traditions of practice to the development of community education in Scotland and elsewhere will be critically examined. Adult Education, Community Work and Youth Work will be considered in terms of different histories, policy imperatives, notions of purpose and varying methodologies. The course provides the opportunity to synthesise ideas, examine, debate and evaluate a range of values, purposes and practices associated with different interpretations of community education. |

- Apply critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis to issues and practice in three main strands of community education
- Engage purposefully with the community in different settings
