SummaryCurriculum and Pedagogy 2d offers students opportunities to develop understanding about teaching and learning in the areas of Expressive Arts (Art & Design and Drama), Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. The overall purpose is to support students in becoming knowledgeable, confident and reflective teachers in these strands. The curricular areas are considered in the broader context, outlined in the emerging curriculum framework (ACfE), and with reference to the education courses running concurrently in the programme. Whilst the curriculum components above will be presented as distinct strands, opportunities will be identified to integrate learning across them.
Established pedagogies in these curriculum areas will be highlighted and modelled through a variety of approaches. These will include engaging students with planning, teaching, learning, assessment and evaluation associated with the areas involved. Students will learn about good practice through taking theoretical perspectives, undertaking supported reading and participating in practical workshops. The students recent early stages placement experience will be drawn upon to develop further understanding of child development, child-centered and inclusive learning, in relation to the curricular areas in the course. The course team aims to use a range of ICT initiatives to resource, enhance and enrich the learning experiences. Teaching and learning in Curriculum and Pedagogy 2d also looks forward to take account of the need for students to prepare for placement 3. This provides opportunities for students to teach in the areas of middle and upper primary. Topics and contexts will therefore be selected to suit reflect these stages.
