Course description |
This course comprises of clinical sessions, clinical observations and lectures.
You will continue to enhance your clinical skills by treating patients with increased complexity. Your clinical sessions will remain unchanged from semester one. You will have four clinical sessions per week in the Edinburgh Dental Institute. Three of these sessions will be an adult whole mouth care clinic which run on the restorative department. The paediatric clinical session is also timetabled on a weekly basis which will rotate alongside practical radiography and study sessions.
The lecture component of this course will introduce you oral surgery procedures and you will have the opportunity to observe these procedures at various clinics within NHS Lothian.

Continuous Assessment.
Examination: Paediatric clinical simulated case and Adult restorative simulated clinical case.
To pass this examination overall, students must pass both cases and have at least one pass in each domain that you are assessed on. To pass a case, students must pass 3 out of 5 domains for that case. A resit of both cases will be required if a student fails one/both of the cases. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Recognise and take account of the needs of different patient groups including children, adults, older people, and those with special care requirements throughout the patient care process
- Describe the scientific principles underpinning the use of materials and biomaterials and discuss their limitations and selection, with emphasis on those used of dentistry
- Recognise the significance of changes in the patients reported oral health status and take appropriate action.
