Course description |
This semester clinical time will increase to include restorative dental treatment of both the adult and child patient. Students should now be competent to undertake most practical routine dentistry within the remit of the dental hygienist-therapist. You will continue to broaden your knowledge of restorative skills and learn how to deal with factors which can affect successful restorative dentistry. All theoretical aspects of radiography and radiology will be covered in order for you to understand the physics, safety and reasoning behind dental radiographs and how they play a crucial role in dentistry.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- - Be able to competently undertake all practical aspects of routine dentistry within the scope of practice of the dental hygienist-therapist.
- - Understand and explain the principles associated with complex cavities, occlusal management & failure and repair of restorations
- - Be familiar with the importance of child protection and management of paediatric dental trauma
- - Have sound knowledge of the theories behind dental radiology and radiography.
- - Demonstrate safe practice and implementation of techniques required to produce an acceptable radiographic image and show competency in the interpretation of dental radiographs.
