SummaryThe course provides an opportunity for students registered for any of the research degree programmes within the Business School to pursue supervised reading on a topic relevant to the overall aims of that programme.
Course description The topics will be decided in discussion between the student's supervisor and the student. If a student intends to pursue a PhD, the topics may inform the intended research area of the doctoral thesis. If a student does not intend to pursue a PhD the topics relate to other research the student may intend to pursue. Teaching is on a one-to-one basis with the research supervisor supported by auditing a course from the Masters (MBA/MSc) programme.

Additional Information (Assessment) A written report of not less than 5000 words and 250 hours of average student work. The written assignment may involve a refined version of the research proposal including background to study, research objectives, suggested methodology, and first draft of detailed literature review. Content and structure of the reading assignment may vary from this with the supervisor's agreement.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Carry out supervised reading of academic literature as specified by the supervisor.
  2. Critically evaluate the academic literature specified.
  3. Prepare a report on the research proposal, to include a first draft of the detailed literature review.
