Summary | The course begins with an introduction to the basic grammar and syntax of Medieval Welsh, and proceeds to study Medieval Welsh texts with a continuing emphasis on language.
Course-work consists of (1) background and follow-up general reading of primary and critical material, (2) specific reading in preparation for classes, (3) contribution to class discussion.
For grammar classes and similar students are expected to prepare certain exercises and assignments as 'homework'. For text-reading classes the workload consists of preparation of texts, and participation in classroom translation of texts and discussion of their form, content and context as appropriate.
The course will be delivered in English.

Learning Outcomes
The teaching programme consists of two complementary strands, introducing students to the pronunciation, grammar and syntax of Medieval Welsh, and training them to read edited Medieval Welsh texts. It provides students with an introduction to the palaeographic, orthographic and textual background of the texts studied.
