Summary | Topics include: scientific methodology, experimentation, use of Minitab, data summary and distribution and both parametric and non-parametric statistical methods. At the end of this course, students will be able to apply scientific and statistical methods to actual research projects. Students will also be able to discuss reasonably complex statistical issues with a statistician. Attention will also be given to communication skills (oral and written). |

For this course students are asked to submit one formative assignment, which is a written piece of work. Written feedback will be provided.
Summative assignments are:
Summative assignments are: an oral presentation of the zoo project, a written report of the zoo project, and an exam.
For all assignments oral and/or written feedback will be given.
Marks and feedback will be given within 15 working days (25 days over the Christmas period). a written piece of work, an exam and an oral presentation.
Written feedback will be given for the written piece of work and the presentation and also, on request, for the exam.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Have an understanding of scientific method and statistical concepts, and be able to apply this using statistical analysis software e.g. Minitab.
- Have an understanding of, and ability to critique, experimental design and statistical analysis.
- Be at ease with data handling and basic statistics as used in applied animal behaviour and welfare.
- Be able to integrate and communicate experimental design and results orally and written.
- To gain confidence in how to use knowledge of scientific method in future careers.
