Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- master the devanagari script in which Sanskrit is written, acquire a familiarity with the basic structures of the Sanskrit language, and build up a basic Sanskrit vocabulary.
- identify, describe and translate a range of linguistic forms in an epic Sanskrit text.
- develop skills in acquiring knowledge of a complex language which they will be able to transfer to study of other languages.
- communicate an understanding of the linguistic and textual culture of ancient India.
- develop skills based on their independent work and interact with class colleagues in communal study of the Sanskrit language.
