| Summary |
The expansion of digital media in recent years has resulted in seismic transformation of our culture. We now have access to a level of visual and auditory material unheard of in the history of human civilisation. This course explores a range of responses to the impact of these developments on contemporary art and film.

| Course description |
The series of lectures, screenings and seminars will be split into two sections. In the first part of the course we will explore some of the more theoretical and conceptual responses to, and analysis of, digital culture. In the second part of the course we will examine a range of artistic practices that have attempted to respond to these changes. A wide variety of contemporary practice will be discussed (painting, sculpture, video, installation, performance photography, cinema and television).

Formative assessment (feed forward) will be given in relation to the written assessment at the mid-point of semester. Students will be asked to prepare an outline or draft proposal of their written assessment task and will receive verbal or written feed forward / feedback on this in advance of the final submission date. Students will receive full written feedback on completion of the summative assessment. |
