SummaryIndicative course content
The aim of this module is to identify a personal area of inquiry, explore different methods of information gathering and develop approaches to drawing and other methods of visualisation. Intermedia Art is defined by ideas that move between different media and as such students will be introduced to the wide-ranging possibilities for information gathering specific to the Intermedia such as expanded approaches to drawing, film & video and sound

Aims of course
1 To examine a practical range of research methods and processes relating to observation, investigation and enquiry.
2 To create a personal body of work through the development of self directed and self initiated study.
3 To establish a knowledge of appropriate research methods through the study of contemporary artists and artworks in the area of Intermedia Art.

Course description Introduce core methodologies of artistic research.

Mixture of one-to-one group presentations and workshops.
Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students)
Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Research 1 (Art) (ARTX07004)
Co-requisites Students MUST also take: ( Intermedia practice 2 (ARTX08022) AND Intermedia Professional Practice 2 (ARTX08024) AND Art 2: Postmodernism and After (ARTX08025))
Prohibited Combinations Other requirements This course is only available to ECA students on degree programmes belonging to the School of Art.
Direct entry students to Year 2 must have Recognised Prior Learning equivalent to 120 credits.
Additional Costs ECA students are required to pay for the cost of materials used throughout their programme of study.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Evaluate visual information and synthesise ideas through drawing and other constructed images.
  2. Identify an area of personal research and develop a coherent body of practical work through examining and extending particular ideas.
  3. Organize, present and discuss a body of personal research work in individual and/or group situations, demonstrating an awareness of Contemporary Art Research methods.
