Summary | This course is intended to present the current understanding of some of the main topics in cosmology, at a sufficiently high level that it allows a contact with the research literature. The focus will be on the development of structure in the universe, and how this can be related to cosmological initial conditions and exotic physical processes that operate at early times and energies. The course will be self-contained, but builds on the material covered in Cosmology; prior attendance at this course is strongly recommended. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Be able to qualitatively describe the theoretical basis of and the principal observational evidence for the standard cosmological model.
- Be able to derive kinematical quantities and properties of light travel within an expanding Universe.
- Be able to compute the relic abundance of elementary particles under a range of physical circumstances.
- Understand the role of scalar fields in driving cosmological inflation and compute observational outcomes of simple models.
- Be able to describe, with some mathematical content, the evolution of density perturbations and their relation to cosmic microwave background anisotropies.
