Learning Outcomes
Intended learning objectives are that students will understand the pathogenesis and clinical presentation of cardiovascular disease, to become competent at history taking and cardiovascular examination and know how the most common forms of cardiovascular disease are treated. In addition to acquiring a broad knowledge base, students should be able to demonstrate and understand that many patients in hospital have experienced a frightening and perhaps life-threatening cardiac event and can respond appropriately. They should be able to demonstrate competent diagnostic skills (e.g. history taking, examination, diagnostic summary), therapeutic skills (e.g. treatment, explanation and advice, reassurance and support) and practical skills (e.g. resuscitation, electrocardiography).
