Almost no material is out of bounds for contemporary jewellery, which can be hugely inventive and imaginative. In this course, students will experiment with non-traditional tools and materials such as beads, fabrics and found objects to deploy new techniques such as assemblage and construction to design pieces of jewellery. This course will introduce the uses of basic macrame and knotting techniques, laminating plastic and incorporating textiles and found objects to make a series of tests and samples leading to more independent and personal developed pieces supported by research and contextual awareness. |

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- By the end of the course, through attending classes and engaging in directed and independent study, students should be able to:
RESEARCH
Research and develop ways of collecting and manipulating non-precious materials which can be transformed and designed into jewellery items
- PRACTICE
Develop jewellery techniques including using a range of tools and materials to design and make a series of considered jewellery pieces
- PRESENT
Select, edit and present a coherent body of sketches, tests, samples and resolved jewellery works which demonstrate an informed and individual response to working with non-precious materials and techniques.
