Course description |
Subject to availability, and the appropriateness of the topic, students are free to choose any member of staff in the subject area of history of art. Dissertation supervision follows the rules set out in the University's Code of Practice for Taught Postgraduate Programmes. You work one-on-one with a member of the staff cohort whose research specialism, as far as possible, corresponds with the topic you are focussing on for your dissertation. The pattern of meetings is outlined in the course handbook.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- conduct an extended research enquiry in the history of modern and/or contemporary art, defining appropriate research questions or problems
- utilize a range of research resources, including, for example and as appropriate, library, archival, web-based material, object-based collections and/or interviews
- devise a structured argument introducing your research questions, examining a range of material, and presenting your conclusions
- deploy a variety of research methods, selecting those relevant to your project, your material and your research questions
- present a written account of your research of up to 15000 words, using academic conventions for footnoting and bibliography, and with illustrations if necessary
