Summary	This course is the fourth of four essential Family Medicine courses building the skill base for Family Medicine practitioners working in rural poorly resourced regions. The course will cover the following family medicine topics: a) Diagnosing common surgical presenting problems, including head injuries, initiating and implementing resuscitative and life-saving procedures in emergencies b) Diagnosing, treating and managing common musculo-skeletal problems and emergencies c) Anaesthesia in Family Medicine d) Infectious and non-infectious skin conditions e) Age related health issues f) Sexual health issues including HIV g) Identification and implementation of palliative care services h) Adolescent health issues i) Oral health

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course the student will be able to: 1. Use appropriate surgical skills necessary for stabilisation and treatment of common surgical conditions and manage acute surgical emergencies including trauma 2. Manage musculo skeletal problems and emergencies, and perform routine minor surgical procedures 3. Describe the pharmacology of various anaesthetic agents, their indications and complications and be able to describe the physiology, clinical manifestations and management of anaesthetised states 4. Be able to establish and manage appropriately clinics for family medicine issues such as adolescent care, elderly care, sexual health, dermatology and occupational health 5. Manage infectious and non-infectious skin conditions 6. Provide appropriate palliative care
