Summary | This course helps international students with 5.5 IELTS to improve their knowledge and use of English in both general and academic contexts. The morning General English component (9.15-10.45 daily) provides structured progression through a syllabus of grammar and vocabulary building with reading skills. The afternoon Academic English component (14.00-15.50 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) includes: study management, basic research skills, listening and note-taking, discussion skills and writing.
Students are also are expected to devise a programme of independent study using ELTC self-access centre (in afternoon opening hours) and to maintain a learning journal for this independent study, which forms part of the course assessment.
