Summary | A course for beginners with no previous knowledge of Italian, designed to give absolute beginners a basic, working knowledge of spoken and written Italian.
The course is not suitable for students with previous knowledge of Italian.
All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.
This course runs both in semester 1 and semester 2.
On successful completion of the course students will have the option of taking Foundation Italian Language 2 (ELCI07006) (20 credits), which follows on from Foundation Italian Language 1. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- At the end of the course students should reach approximately level A1/1+ on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
- The acquisition of a basic language competence and a vocabulary of 600/700 words should be expected to allow the oral and written production of simple phrases, and to understand short passages where the context is clear and identified.
- Students will be able to communicate at an elementary level in situations of daily routine.
